cheryl lynne skinner: Music
sunday afternoon
(cheryl lynne skinner)
released on the Sunday Afternoon CD
Sunday Afternoon is dedicated to the memory of Susan B. Thompson, a personal friend of Cheryl’s who lost her life to breast cancer. Susan was the co-director of the Living Arts and Science Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Prior to Susan's death, Cheryl said she wanted to compose a piece for Susan. Thompson's response was “Go to the Art Institute and view the painting ‘Sunday Afternoon’ by Seurat, and you will know what to write.” Part of the proceeds of this CD release will be donated to breast cancer research.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Words & Music by Cheryl Lynne Skinner
All alone, I face another Sunday afternoon
Time goes on, the portrait in my mind won’t hide the truth.
I close my eyes I see the beauty of your face.
The memory of your smile I still embrace.
As flowers start to bloom in June, Sunday afternoon.
I ask myself, why you had to leave my life so soon.
I miss you so, never like on Sunday afternoon.
Just when I think, this heartache will subside
I can’t stop this pain, God knows I’ve tried
It’s tearing me apart, sweetheart, Sunday afternoon.
Instrumental Interlude:
I close my eyes, I see the beauty of your face.
The memory of your smile I still embrace.
As flowers start to bloom in June, Sunday afternoon.
