Cheryl Skinner, an advocate of the jazz tradition that views the composer in the realization of a tune. Her set was filled with standards, but her re-invention of the songs' melodies made each one simultaneously fresh and familiar.

"The Garden" an original musical composition by Tripp Bratton and Cheryl Skinner, was the highlight of the evening as it provided a strong rhythmic background for dance.

She has an easy piano style which belies the many hours she put in becoming familiar enough with her repertoire to know when to vary from the written music, and when to leave it alone. Her voice is strong and clear, with a wide enough range to allow her to sing many different kinds of songs.

Entertainment was in abundance, Cheryl Skinner and her Jazz band rocked the crowd with beats that made it hard to refrain from snapping your fingers and tapping your toes.

On flute, at the piano, or with her own smooth vocals, Cheryl Skinner serves up a blend of jazz, soul and blues that's unmistakable.
